The Global Peace Index (GPI) is an attempt to measure the relative position of nations' and regions' peacefulness. It is the product of Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) and developed in consultation with an international panel of peace experts from peace institutes and think tanks with data collected and collated by the Economist Intelligence Unit. The list was launched first in May 2007, then continued yearly.

CN Tower, Toronto, Canada

The CN Tower is a communications and observation tower in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Standing 553.3 m tall, it was completed in 1976, becoming the world's tallest free-standing structure and world's tallest tower. It held both records for 34 years, or one-third century, until the completion of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Canton Tower in Guangzhou. It remains the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere, a signature icon of Toronto's skyline, and a symbol of Canada, attracting more than two million international visitors annually.

Its name "CN" originally referred to Canadian National, the railway company that built the tower.

The State Library of Victoria, Australia

The State Library of Victoria is the central library of the state of Victoria, Australia, located in Melbourne. It is on the block bounded by Swanston, La Trobe, Russell, and Little Lonsdale Streets, in the northern centre of the central business district. The library holds over 1.5 million books and 16,000 serials, including the diaries of the city's founders, John Batman and John Pascoe Fawkner, and the folios of Captain James Cook.

Eureka Tower, Melbourne, Australia

Eureka Tower is a 297.3 m skyscraper located in the Southbank precinct of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Construction began in August 2002 and the exterior completed on 1 June 2006. The plaza was finished in June 2006 and the building was officially opened on 11 October 2006. The project was designed by Melbourne architectural firm Fender Katsalidis Architects and was built by Grocon (Grollo Australia). The developer of the tower was Eureka Tower Pty Ltd, a joint venture consisting of Daniel Grollo (Grocon), investor Tab Fried and one of the Tower's architects Nonda Katsalidis. It was the world's tallest residential tower when measured to its highest floor, until surpassed by Ocean Heights and the HHHR Tower in Dubai. It is now the fourth-tallest, after Q1 located on Queensland's Gold Coast and the two Dubai skyscrapers.

Occupations announced by New South Wales (NSW), Australia for 2013 - 2014

New South Wales (NSW) is a great place to live and work. The regions of NSW offer excellent work opportunities and great lifestyle benefits.

State Migration Plan
The plan includes an increase in the number of skilled migrants that can be nominated by NSW Trade and Investment each year from the agreed NSW List of Occupations (updated 14 October 2013). The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) determines the number of skilled migrants that can be nominated.

Applicants for NSW nomination for Skilled nominated (subclass 190 visa) are encouraged to apply for Australian Immigration. Below are some of the occupations eligible to apply:

Suspended occupations on NSW State Migration Plan
Due to the current imposition of pro-rata occupation ceilings to certain occupation groups, announced by DIAC on 05 August 2013, NSW is currently not accepting applications in the following categories:

• Other Engineering Professional - 2339 
• Software and Applications Programmers - 2613

Occupations that are 'SUSPENDED' cannot be accepted until further notice.

Scott Morrison Sworn in as New Minister for Australian Immigration -

It is expected that the new Minister will continue the hardline approach of the newly elected Liberal/National Coalition on the issue of asylum seekers arriving by boat. Operation Sovereign Borders is a new directive, also formally introduced on 18 September 2013, which will see military-led action to intercept boats carrying asylum seekers. All government agencies involved in border protection will come under the command of a single three-star military commander reporting directly to Minister Morrison.

Further, the new Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced that Permanent Protection Visas will immediately be ceased, and that there will be a return to Temporary Protection Visas for people who arrive unauthorised by boat and are successful in making a refugee application.

The newly elected government of Australia has remained mostly silent on other aspects of the migration program. Only time will tell whether they will take a more generous approach to temporary work sponsored visas, the rules for which were tightened under recent changes.

For now, people who are interested in migrating to Australia should continue to work towards that dream and take advantage of the current migration program which has a planning level of 190,000 places for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.
